Heritage nights are a major focus for the NBA teams as it allows them to connect with the multi-cultural fan base that is growing in the USA and around the world. The NBA is a global sports phenomenon and there is a record amount of growth in interest in countries such as China and India. The NBA has offices in these countries and routinely holds camps hosted by current and retired NBA players. Players such as Yao Ming, and current NBA player’s Jeremy Lin, and Sim Bhullar represent how the NBA is incorporating the multi-cultural influence into its players on the court!
Mayor Dyer Proclaims February 25, 2017 as INDIA DAY IN ORLANDO - Orlando Magic and Chase partner with the Indian-American Chamber of Commerce to host event featuring Bollywood superstar appearance, Fan Fest and postgame activities - The Indian American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) led Orlando’s 5th annual India Day Celebration in Downtown Orlando on February 25, 2017. Officially proclaimed by Orlando Mayor, Buddy Dyer as “India Day” in Orlando. Now in its fifth year, INDIA DAY is designed to broaden awareness of the Indian-American heritage, culture and music in Central Florida.
The Indian American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) led Orlando’s official India Day Celebration in Downtown Orlando for the fourth year in a row. The day-long line up of excitement showcased the Indian culture, cuisine and entertainment including a well-attended Street Festival in front of the Amway Center. In partnership with the Orlando Magic NBA Team, the IACC has donated over 5,000 tickets for charity and showcased the various elements of the Indian American diaspora. The Street Festival is highlighted with Turban Tying, Saree wrapping, henna tattoo artists, dance performances, and Indian snacks engaging the local American community. This Heritage Night was officially recognized by the NBA as the “Best Heritage Night in the NBA” in both 2014 and 2015.
